Strategic Partnerships- EIF

Enhanced Integrated Framework and UNWTO

As one of the scope of work for the UNWTO Liaison office in Geneva (GVLO) is to build strategic partnerships for increased capacity, GVLO has actively participated in the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) activities: including Board Meetings, EIF Steering Committee Meetings and the EIF Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS)  workshop.

The EIF is a multi-donor programme, which supports Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to be more active players in the global trading system by helping them tackle supply-side constraints to trade. Collaboration between the UNWTO and EIF started in 2010 when the EIF became an observer of the Steering Committee for Tourism Development (SCTD), an innovative Delivering-as-One mechanism to provide integrated technical assistance on tourism to LDCs.

A joint UNWTO/EIF/ITC summary report on Tourism for Development in Least Developed Countries-Mobilizing and Coordinating Resources for Tourism with the Enhanced Integrated Framework identifies avenues for EIF stakeholders and beneficiaries to increase coordination and efficiency so as to maximize the positive socio-economic impacts of tourism, while mitigating potentially negative environmental and cultural impacts.

The full report "Tourism for Development in Least Developed Countries" was launched on the occasion of the Aid for Trade Review held in Geneva on 11 July 2017.
